Alaska Rail Tours Travel by Train on Alaska Railroad

Alaska Rail Tours

The Alaska Railroad offers some wonderful scenic rail tours. The best way to see Alaska is on the railroad. The Alaskan Rail is one of a kind offering the Denali Star, Coastal Classic and Glacier Discovery. The very moment you climb aboard the Alaska Railroad you're riding on the best train in the world.

The Denali Star

Upon the Denali Star you will be taken on a journey full of adventure. The Denali Star Train runs between Anchorage and Fairbanks with stops at Telkeetna and Denali National Park. The Denali Star is a great way to see Alaska and experience the back country in a very luxurious setting. Highlights include views of Mt. McKinley. As a GoldStar guest, you will bask in the luxury of a first-class multi-level luxury coach, confirmed seating in new luxury cars, a commemorative and edible GoldStar gift, priority check-in and boarding, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages during your journey, and access to a private open air viewing deck that is one of its kind. The extra premium for Goldstar service makes choosing GoldStar worthwhile!

The Coastal Classic

The Coastal Classic travels south of Anchorage to the little seaside town of Seward. It offers spectacular views through the Turnagain Arm then passes through the Kenai Peninsula and down to Seward. This is a wonderful train tour to see glaciers, Dall Sheep, Moose, beluga and beluga whales. Traveling 130 miles in each direction with a ride of 4 hours one-way many people overnight in Seward and choose to take day trips and day cruises to Kenai Fjords National Park.

The Glacier Discovery

The shortest route on the railroad, the Glacier Discovery offers opportunities to escape Anchorage and take unique day trips from Girdwood, Portage, and the Kenai Mountains. The train stops at Girdwood, then goes to Portage. From Portage you can go to Whittier and connect with cruses and Prince William Sound where glacier and wildlife cruises are available. South of Portage, the tour stops following road system and heads straight up the Placer River Valley. If Glaciers are your point of interest when visiting Alaska you want to choose Alaska Railroads Glacier Discovery Train Adventure.
